25/08/13 - Dealerless Craps game spews out money like an ATM

A gambling whiz rolled the dice on a software glitch at Aqueduct Resorts World in Queens — and scored an easy $100,000,

At least one other savvy player at the racino also was aware of the flaw with the electronic craps game and made a killing, sources said.

“It was like a bank ATM machine mistakenly spitting out money,” said an insider familiar with the embarrassing glitch involving the video dice game.

According to the manufacturer — which will have to repay the racino for its losses — the flaw allowed the players to increase their potential purse size while wagering virtually nothing.

For example, if they initially placed a minimum $10 or $15 bet with the machine, at the last second they could increase that wager to $100 or more. The higher amount then registered if they won and paid out big. But if they lost, they were still out only $10 or $15.

Resorts World officials recently discovered the problem when they noticed that their weekly revenue take from craps had plummeted, said sources familiar with the ongoing probe.

The matter was reported to the New York State Gaming Commission and SHFL Entertainment, the manufacturer of the “Las Vegas Star” and other games.

The Gaming Commission immediately yanked the flawed craps game from the five state racetrack casinos that offered them: Yonkers, Saratoga, Monticello, Tioga Downs and Aqueduct.

About 70 percent of the house take from Resorts World goes to the state to finance education or subsidize the horse-racing industry.

Lee Park, a spokesman for the state gaming commission, said of the snafu, “A vendor’s electronic table game had a software issue that enabled the manipulation of results. The gaming commission immediately took these games off line. Any potential loss of state revenue will be recovered directly from the vendor.”

State gambling officials know the names of the gamblers who outfoxed them: Every bettor who wins more than $600 must provide a Social Security number and ID.

But the commission declined to release their names, saying the case is still under investigation.
